Originally from Edmonton, Dr Mather earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of Toronto, where he was awarded several honours for highest academic achievement. Following graduation, Dr. Mather completed a general surgical residency at the University of Illinois in Chicago. He continued his training by completing a four-year specialty training program in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, receiving his Masters of Science in oral cancer at the University of Manitoba. Dr. Mather is a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada.
Driven by his unwavering commitment to mastery, Dr. Mather’s training also took him to Dallas, Texas where he also completed a Craniofacial Trauma internship under renowned Dr. Edward Ellis III at the Southwestern University. Further refining his expertise and solidifying his foundation, Dr. Mather is more suitably able to meet the needs of an individual's surgical requirements of his patients.
Dealing with complex craniofacial trauma Dr. Mather advanced his surgical skills in facial anatomy and reconstruction in one of the busiest hospitals in the world. Fun fact, this was the hospital that JFK was brought to during his assassination and still has a operating room on hold and prepped whenever a president visits Dallas to this day.

Placing a strong emphasis on advanced surgical expertise, during his speciality training, Dr. Mather completed an apprenticeship in Esthetic Implantology and Bone Grafting under the esteemed Dr. Daniel Buser at the University of Bern, Switzerland. Dr. Buser is considered to be the most accomplished implants surgeon in the world and served as the president of the International Team for Implantolology (ITI). During his time with Dr. Buser he completed his master course in Guided Bone Regeneration and Esthetic Implantology in the Smile Zone – thought to be the most challenging areas of implant placement.
Dr. Mather founded Gateway Oral & Facial Surgery in 2010. An empathetic and compassionate surgeon, Dr. Mather understands the typical anxieties that accompany a visit to the oral surgeon’s office, and his caring, kind manner consistently puts his patients at ease. Dr. Mather’s practice focuses on dental implants and bone grafting, corrective jaw surgery and removal of wisdom teeth.

Your First Visit
Your initial appointment will consist of a consultation with Dr. Mather. He will take the time to complete a comprehensive evaluation, explain all findings and your diagnosis with you. Following, he will then recommend a treatment plan specific for your needs.
Occasionally, surgery can be performed on the same day as the consultation. However, a complex medical history or treatment plan may require an evaluation and a second appointment to provide treatment on another day.
A thorough medical history form will need to be completed prior to your consultation.

Dr. Mather and his team are committed to providing excellent care and guide patients in choosing the best payment option for their individual needs. Financial costs are discussed during your initial consultation and a predetermination sent to your insurance provider.
Your dental insurance is a contract between your employer and an insurance company. Benefits received are based on the fee guide that your insurer follows - this may be different from those suggested by the Alberta Dental Association. At the time of your initial consultation we will assist you with an insurance predetermination.
The benefits that you receive from your insurance plan may not cover all the costs of your surgical treatment. Please remember you are fully responsible for all fees charged by our office regardless of your insurance.
