Dental Implants
With dental implants, you can regain the beauty and functionality of your smile—enabling you to eat properly, speak, and laugh confidently.

Dental implants are changing the way people live. They offer a convenient, comfortable, and long-lasting solution to missing teeth that not only preserves bone health but also has no impact on your healthy adjacent teeth.

Implants are titanium posts, serving as artificial tooth roots, and provide a longer-lasting and versatile alternative to removable partial dentures or dental bridges—a permanent solution to tooth replacement.
Functioning like a natural tooth, dental implants look, feel, and function just like the real thing.

What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants serve as a state-of-the-art replacement for lost teeth, restoring the aesthetic and functional qualities of your smile. Dental implants offer a highly customized, long term solution to a missing tooth or teeth and, when shaped and placed by an experienced and reputable surgeon working with your dentist, deliver results that look, feel, and function like your natural teeth. This popular tooth replacement method provides stability, better chewing capability, and improved appearance.

Dental implants, which are usually made of titanium, serve as an artificial root or foundation, which a dental crown or bridge can then be placed onto. Implants are surgically placed into the bone below the gum tissue. When crowns are placed on the implant fixtures, they are securely anchored to the bone and look very natural. These implants mimic the natural function of your original teeth, providing a stable and long-lasting solution for missing teeth.

Working with Dr. Mather, it is possible to restore or enhance your smile in such a way that it can be next to impossible to distinguish them from your natural teeth.

Who's a Good Candidate for Dental Implants?
Dental implants are an excellent solution for replacing missing teeth and restoring the functionality of your mouth. During your consultation, Dr Mather at Gateway Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery will be able to determine if implants are right for you. This usually involves a series of diagnostic tests that may include a 3D x-ray to determine if you are a good candidate.
The Surgical Procedure
For most patients, the placement of dental implants involves two surgical procedures:

-
The extraction of the non-restorable tooth.
-
Following a sufficient healing period to allow any inflammatory or infectious processes to settle – the placement of the dental implant.
First, implants are placed within your jawbone.
For the first three to six months following surgery, the implants integrate with the jawbone. You should be able to wear temporary dentures and eat a soft diet during this time. At the same time, your dentist is forming new replacement teeth.
After the implant has healed to the jawbone, the second phase begins.
We will uncover the implants and attach small posts, which will act as anchors for the artificial teeth. These posts protrude through the gums where the artificial teeth are placed; these posts will not be seen. The entire procedure usually takes four to eight months. Most patients experience minimal disruption their daily life.
